USS George Washington Intensifies Night Flights in Arabian Sea
The USS George Washington has intensified nighttime flight operations in the Arabian Sea as US-Iran tensions remain elevated, while commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz stays well below pre-war levels.

The USS George Washington has stepped up nighttime flight operations in the Arabian Sea, highlighting the continued US military presence in the region as tensions between Washington and Tehran remain high.
Images released by US Central Command (CENTCOM) showed sailors conducting flight-deck operations aboard the Nimitz-class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier as it transited the Arabian Sea. The nighttime drills underscore the heightened level of vigilance surrounding key maritime routes in the region.
USS George Washington operates amid rising Iran tensions
The USS George Washington (CVN 73) and its carrier strike group entered the US Central Command area on August 19 as part of a scheduled deployment.
Although CENTCOM did not provide detailed information about the purpose or scope of the nighttime flight operations, the carrier's activities come against the backdrop of escalating US-Iran tensions and increased military activity around the Arabian Sea and Strait of Hormuz.
The strategic waterway remains a major focus because of its importance to global energy and commercial shipping. Any prolonged disruption in the area could have wider consequences for international trade and energy markets.
US naval presence expands across the region
The George Washington is operating as part of a broader US naval deployment in the Middle East. More than 20 warships are reportedly supporting US operations linked to the blockade against Iran.
CENTCOM said that, as of August 21, US forces had redirected 68 commercial vessels, disabled three vessels and boarded two others as part of enforcement operations.
The command also released footage showing an MH-60R Sea Hawk helicopter landing aboard the USS Ross, another US warship involved in the regional deployment.
The increased activity reflects the scale of the US military presence as American forces continue monitoring maritime movements and maintaining readiness across strategically important waters.
