Israel Launches Air Strikes on Southern Lebanon as US-Iran Peace Deal Appears Close
Israel launches air strikes in southern Lebanon while Iran and the United States move closer to a historic peace agreement. The deal could reopen the Strait of Hormuz and address Iran’s nuclear programme.

Beirut, June 14, 2026: Israel carried out a series of air strikes across southern Lebanon on Saturday after issuing evacuation warnings for nearly 20 locations, according to Lebanese state media. The latest military action comes at a crucial moment as Iran and the United States appear to be nearing a major peace agreement that could reshape tensions across the Middle East.
According to Lebanon’s National News Agency, at least one person was killed after an Israeli strike hit the town of Marrakeh in the Tyre district. The strikes followed repeated warnings from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has stated that Israel would continue military operations if Hezbollah maintains attacks on northern Israeli territory.
Israel-Hezbollah Tensions Continue Despite Diplomatic Progress
The latest escalation highlights the fragile security situation between Israel and Hezbollah. Although diplomatic efforts involving the United States, Iran, Pakistan, and Qatar have brought renewed hopes of a broader regional agreement, fighting on the Israel-Lebanon border remains a serious concern.
The proposed US-Iran agreement is expected to include measures aimed at reducing regional conflicts, including a potential end to hostilities involving Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Pakistan Mediates Historic US-Iran Peace Talks
Pakistan has played a key role in facilitating negotiations between Washington and Tehran. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that the two sides are closer than ever to a peace agreement and said that finalisation of the deal is expected within 24 hours.
Pakistan is reportedly preparing for an electronic signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which would be followed by technical-level negotiations during the upcoming week.
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi also expressed optimism, saying that the agreement could be signed in the coming days once the final stages of approval are completed by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
